In Igbo spirituality, the palm-tree (NKWU) is the first tree created by CHUKWU as ATU OFU. Igbo sacred science associate NKWU with the Milkyway. Igbo people see Nkwu as the source of life, the same way that Western science see the milkyway as the source of life. Igbo people say that there's no branch of the palm-tree that goes to waste, because it is one of our tree of life. In other words, we have known the milkyway to be the source of life, before the Westerners knew it. There are millions of palm trees in Igboland. We also have forests of palm-trees. The milky way can also be called NKWU ORA / Nkwu Ọha (the cosmic palm-tree of the sun people), due to the fact that the spiral of the Milky way is identical to the spiral of the palm-tree, while the sun sits in the middle as EZE ANYA OFU. The palm-tree is also known as the tree of the Igbo Chi of thunder AMADIOHA / EGBE IGWE.
